We welcome the introduction of the T-charge to clean up London's air pollution. However, we are concerned that it coming into force in October doesn't give owners of vehicles affected by the charge much time to acquire newer ones.

​In response to the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan's announcement that introducing ULEZ into the captial a year early, RAC head of external affairs Pete Williams said: “While bold action is needed to tackle London’s air quality problem, we fear bringing in the ULEZ a year early could unfairly penalise small businesses with older vehicles, as well as less well-off private motorists.

​RAC public affairs manager Nick Lyes said: “According to the 2015 RAC Report on Motoring, seven in 10 motorists say they regularly or occasionally break the 70mph speed limit, so clearly there is an issue of compliance here. It’s important that the solution to that problem offers a range of alternatives, and average speed cameras can be part of this.

RAC Business spokesperson Simon Peevers says: “The fact is there are too many motorists in general that still use hand-held mobile phones while driving and there is a real need to change that behaviour. Whether people are driving for business, going to the shops or doing the school run, the distraction caused by hand-held phone use can lead to disastrous consequences.
